I only know Johan Cruijff… But I dont need to know the other players… I call them the 74 Holland… This is the kind of people teams need to make a team big…

fantastic! actually nowadays is very difficult to play total football but the teams that are closest are barcelona and arsenal, on the other hand the ones that destroy football with defensive counterattacking tactics are inter and chelsea. im glad they havent won any champions league with sucha boring style of play, its a disgrace to football.

don’t forget Total Football key:physical condition.Maybe football is more physical demanding today and thats why players have fixed positions.

Just because Arsenal play good football doesn’t mean its “total football”. Most teams simply can’t play it because it requires top quality on all positions. Defenders playing just as well as attackers etc. Everybody switching positions. And it is 4-3-3. A team that doesn’t play 4-3-3 cannot play total football because 4-3-3 is the most perfect spread of players over positions on the pitch. That’s how you make space in possession.

total football is so effective, but to play total football everyone must be versatile and in todays game lots of players can only play one position. the way they defend is very,very clever and effective.

It was the Hungarians who started this style of football off in the 50’s .. Johan Cryuff added and pioneered it a little more, yet this Holland side and the Puskas Magical Magyars side never won the world cup
